High Resolution Digital Image Transmission (Patent Pending)

WIRELESS AND CCTV MEGAPIXEL DIGITAL CAMERA TRANSMITTION FOR SURVEILLANCE AND UNMANNED AIR VEHICLES (UAV)

Description

This technology relates to systems for transmitting high resolution or high definition "stills" pictures from digital cameras over wireless links, and in particular using analog wireless or cable video links in conjunction with a very high resolution picture from a commercial digital camera, to relay a full resolution image over long ranges.

The invention shows how to use, integrate and interface the digital camera in a UAV (or surveillance/security system) with an analog video link, to achieve a near-real stream of megapixels pictures on a PC screen in the control center or remote dispaly.

The development is useful in any remote sensing application needing super high resolution pictures to be pipelined through an analog or even digital video links.
It offers two ways of using digital cameras and transmitting their output over a standard "old fashion" wireless video link.
Analog video links are known "workhorses" for decades, but due to their bandwidth limitations and inability to change the line and field scanning rates, cannot pass megapixels pictures.

System's components

Digital camera (commercial), high Megapixel type.

* Regular Analog video link (like standard UAV communication), to trasmit online pictures.

* Remote Control Unit (RCU) to operate  from the ground.

* Recording and picture storing unit.

** The system is fully filded and operational in real security mission.

Advantages of this setup

   1)  Much cheaper, smaller and more reliable than a mechanical gimbals.
   2)  Enables full large area photo still picture, with all the fine details of all of the area or part of it.
   3)  Has no shakes and blurs which UAV customers really don't like.
   4)  Does not need a special round dome that comes out of the plane and may break at every landing.
   5)  Does not need the expertise of a UAV payload operator.
   6)  Has a perfect built in on board digital recording.
   7)  Provide complete area photography with a single or several snapshots.
   8)  Fully compatible with any video transmitter.
   9)  The 3 Mega-pixels resolution camera (for example) has 10 times more resolution than any standard video camera.
  10) The camera's output is a pure analog video,
  11)  Micro digital camera with no optic zoom, with a 3X optical zoom, or with a 10X optical zoom. With this type of optical zooms you
need a simple pan/tilt mechanism to let    you aim the camera and picture what really interests you.

The technology enables an effective and useful product that really enhanced the operational performance.
A stabilized gimbal, on the conterary, is only useful if you know exactly where to look and zoom.
A typical patrol mission or an area scan needs a camera that takes pictures of a wide area in a very good resolution.
